Ohio · employer payroll tool

Ohio workers’ comp premium calculator.

Use this tool to explore employer premium inputs for the July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027 Ohio BWC policy year. Enter reportable payroll and a class already confirmed with BWC. The result is a BizInsured estimate from published rates, not a BWC quote, premium notice or confirmation of coverage.

Estimate one Ohio BWC class

For Ohio private employers. Use the class code assigned by BWC and actual annual reportable Ohio payroll for that class.

This calculator handles one class at a time. If your business has multiple classes, a result for one class is not your total premium. Confirm each classification with BWC; do not choose a code by job title alone.

Use the numeric code shown on your BWC policy or payroll report.
Enter actual Ohio payroll. Apply BWC reporting limits for construction workers, officers, and elected coverage before entering it.
Published rates available: 2026-07-01 through 2027-06-30. Dates outside this period cannot be estimated.
Use the Ohio modifier supplied by BWC. Leave blank if you do not have one.

Payroll and modifier inputs are used only to calculate this result and are not saved. A count of successful calculator uses helps us improve this tool. This estimate is not a BWC premium notice or quote.

Start with verified inputs

Retrieve the class from your BWC records rather than choosing by the lowest rate or an industry keyword. Classification depends on the operations and BWC rules. Use payroll for the same policy year as the rate schedule, and keep Ohio payroll separate from payroll reported elsewhere.

If you have more than one assigned class, use the payroll allocation permitted by BWC. Do not use a single-class result as the total for a business with additional payroll classes. Revenue and headcount are not substitutes for reportable wages.

Read the calculation and its assumptions

The base-rate arithmetic is reportable payroll divided by 100, multiplied by the published class rate. Ohio’s current private-employer schedule expresses rates per $100 of payroll. An optional experience modifier should be the applicable Ohio modifier, not a guess.

Read all assumptions shown with the result. Employer-specific adjustment factors, rating programs and payroll rules can make BWC’s calculation different. Construction or owner/officer reporting rules may require changes to the payroll input. Use the actual BWC notice to determine what is due.

Use the result to prepare a review

Save the class, payroll period and assumptions alongside your budget. If the output seems unusual, first check those inputs against your BWC records. The tool does not assign a classification, enroll you in a rating program or activate coverage.

For state-fund coverage, use official BWC channels. For a broader business-insurance review, prepare your operations, vehicles and property details. Ask separately about stop-gap employers liability; Ohio state-fund workers’ comp does not include that protection.

Before you request quotes

Prepare for an agent review

  • Use the July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027 payroll period.
  • Confirm each class with BWC before calculating.
  • Enter reportable Ohio payroll, not annual business revenue.
  • Use only a verified applicable Ohio experience modifier.
  • Read the assumptions and compare with your BWC notice.
Request an agent review

Your request is saved for review. Quote timing and agent availability are confirmed separately.

Common questions

Is the result a quote from Ohio BWC?

No. BizInsured is not affiliated with BWC or the State of Ohio. BWC determines the actual premium, coverage status and final classifications.

Can the calculator tell me which class to use?

No. Look up your assigned class in your BWC records or confirm it directly with BWC. Finding a code in the rate table does not prove that it applies to your business.

Does this calculate employee injury benefits?

No. It estimates employer premium inputs. It does not calculate an injured worker’s wage replacement, impairment award or settlement.
